Lenovo has a secret Switchbox

What the heck does Switchbox do? That is the question many of us are asking after the purchase of the company by Lenovo. The company was bought for a confidential sum and oddly enough, the company’s products are confidential. So, the net effect is “Lenovo bought something for some dollar amount.” Awesome news.
But it gets deeper. Lenovo was quick to point out that they are happy to gain Switchbox as well as its Michael Sievert, a former corporate vice president at Microsoft (he also held executive positions at AT&T Wireless). Sievert has been named Executive Vice President. Lenovo looking for some leadership that knows how to navigate Microsoft?
Switchbox’s stated objective was: “focused on developing new consumer technologies.” OK, so what the heck is that? Widgets! Big freaking widgets!
We’ll watch this for some signs of new-ness in Lenovo, but in the end it may have just been a ruse to get Sievert on board.
