LaCie will, of course, be at CES 2009 displaying the MAX, so you will be able to check it out first hand while there. Lise Manteau, LaCie’s Consumer Hard Disk Product Manager says that “Our Hard Disk Max is the ideal mass-storage product for users looking for high performance and data protection. Its elegant design and ease of use, combined with its competitive price, will appeal to users who have ever-growing data storage requirements.” And these days, that is more and more people obviously.
Designed by award winning industrial designer Neil Poulton, it features two disk drives (1 TB each) that you can set in either the RAID 0 or RAID 1 configuration by flicking the switch on the back panel of the MAX. The RAID 0 stripes data across both disks (which will give you the quickest data retrieval response), or the RAID 1 will mirror your data on both disks (which will give you the top data reliability). You also get LaCie Setup Assistant with the MAX to quickly do a customizable format of the drives; as well as Genie Backup Assistant (for PC), or Inego Backup Assistant (for Mac).
It has an easy access front USB 2.0 expansion port so you can link to another external drive as well. The MAX even offers a multi-purposed LED stripe which gives off ambient light and turns to red to let you know there might be a problem.
The Hard Disk MAX comes with a one year unlimited online backup service, and is available worldwide through the LaCie online store or LaCie Resellers starting at the MSRP of $269.99
