The first key feature of the Kodak Z980 is the camera’s 24x zoom. This feature definitely puts the Kodak Z980 ahead of other digital cameras in its class. Of course, you also get Kodak’s proprietary Smart Capture technology which helps in producing high-quality images without unnecessary noise and image destabilization. This adds to the camera’s 26-mm wide angle lens which would give you easier time in taking shots at difficult situations.
The Kodak Z980 is also capable of producing high-definition videos, a hotshoe for an optional flash, 12MP CCD sensor, a 3-inch indoor/outdoor color display, and support for SDHC/SD memory cards as well as Kodak’s own Wi-Fi enabled memory cards.
Judging by the way the Z980 looks from the available image, one can’t help but wonder why the need for a vertical grip considering that the Kodak Z980 is still your ordinary point-and-shoot camera? Do you really need an extra battery pack for that? Or is Kodak testing the waters for a more sophisticated camera, perhaps a DSLR to be released soon?
The Kodak Z980 digital camera is expected to retail for $399.95 with a Spring 2009 release date in the U.S.
