Jealous Free Software organization attacks iPhone
A press release was sent out Thursday by the Free Software Foundation (FSF) noting that the iPhone wasn’t the only ‘revolutionary tech innovation’ that will be released this week. FSF will offer Version 3 of the GNU General Public License, a document that stands behind the free software movement and many of its notable apps.
The Foundation had a Brady Bunch moment. “iPhone, iPhone, iPhone!!!” What about them?
As you can probably see, the GPLv3 (as it is called) has absolutely nothing at all to do with the release of the iPhone. But it has gone ignored; seeing as it is only a document and can not connect to the internet. They are trying desperately to gain attention, so they are throwing out a ‘vague’ suggestion that the iPhone may be violating the terms of the GPL.
Peter Brown, the director of the FSF, describes the iPhone as “crippled” and “leaving the user wondering if the iPhone contains GPLed software”. Wait - I thought the accusations were vague.
Update: The verbiage “company” that was previously in the title was a mistake and was completely unintentional. We know that the FSF is a non-profit organization.

on July 1, 2007 at 08:15 PM - LINKThese are immature comments made by you on the FSF. While I agree that it might be a publicity gimmick; it is totally wrong to say iPhone and GPLv3 have nothing to do with each other.
Well GPLv3 stands up against DRM—-and that is exactly why they are talking against use of iPhones. You better educate yourself what GPL, DRM, Free software is all about. The article headline itsleft shows your gross ignorance. (Free software “company” ??? - it is an organization - not a company)
And this organization is not only supported by FSF people but like us millions of supporters of “Free software” philosophy!.

In short; I like to arrange furniture in my house the way I want to. And I may also like to modify my furniture.
I wont buy a house in which I cant modify / arrange the furniture the way I want.
If you are happy with it- you are happy with iPhone. I am not.
on July 2, 2007 at 07:40 AM - LINKThere are already a number of so-called iPhone applications in beta stages that you can test on supported browsers like Safari, IE7 and Firefox

on July 2, 2007 at 09:19 AM - LINKgadgetell… you write about gadgets, software, technology and innovation?!
Apparently, you don’t have a clue what FSF is. It is not a company. It certainly is not a corporation, and surely not jealous.
Who sponsors your site? Apple, Microsoft? RIAA? Nobody I guess. So this so called “news” of yours is a gimmick to attract the adverts from those corporations and sinister agencies.
on July 2, 2007 at 03:41 PM - LINKi really do hate nerds such as ag and Rituraj. i happen to be the teacher who taught Tamarah’s AP Language class in her junior year of high school. she’s a freshman in college (this upcoming fall) and i believe she’s doing a great job. i read every single one of her articles and informed my colleagues to do the same. she’s a cheerleader who likes romance novels and poetry. not exactly a technology guru.
get off her back about it.
