Iomega makes home media networks easy

by Shawn Ingram on Jan 5, 2009 at 12:12 PM

Iomega Home Media Network Hard DriveThere are plenty of options for home media servers.  There’s dedicated machines, programs and the like, but most tend to be rather large.  They tend to require at least a small-sized computer somewhere in you home.  Wouldn’t it be nice if you could find a home media server that was easy to conceal, as well as easy to use?  That’s what Iomega is shooting for with their new Home Media Network Hard Drive, set to debt at Macworld and CES.

The Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive looks simple enough, like an external hard drive that would normally be used for backing data or storing extra data that can’t fit on your computer.  In a way, that’s actually exactly what it is, but with a few tweaks.  The Home Media Network Hard Drive connects straight to your wireless router so it can be accessed by any device on the network, whether it be a PC, Mac or game console.

The Home Media Network Hard Drive serves as a place to store media and back ups for your computers, and as a way to connect a printer to a wireless network via its USB port.  It uses EMC Retrospect Express to back up data from any computer, and uses MozyHome to give users 2GB of free online storage for back ups.  It will also work with a MozyHome subscription for unlimited storage.

If back ups and data storage aren’t enough, how about iTunes integration?  The Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive can integrate all your media with iTunes for easy playback on any machine connected to the network which should make it easy for anyone to use.

The Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive will come in both 500GB and 1TB models starting at $159.99.
