InterDigital has just signed a 7 year deal with Apple to provide technology for the iPhone. As they gave no details of the value of the contract speculation is rife, with some putting the figure as high as $56 million:

“They are going to be getting $2 million a quarter for the next seven years,” Boenning & Scattergood analyst Michael Ciarmoli said.

Details on what the contract actually entails are also somewhat vague, but they are believed to cover the current iPhone and any future models, although the company were somewhat vague when asked:

“The deal covers various 2G and 3G cellular technologies encompassing bandwidth allocation, roaming and power efficiency controls, and most likely also includes some type of packet data coding and delivery.”
