Intel goes Extreme, gamers take notice

intel extremeIntel announced the first CPU under the Extreme Edition brand, the Core 2 X7800.  This ladies and gents is the highest end chip in Intels mobile lineup.

The 2.6 GHz (that is an 8% increase of Intel’s former fastest) dual core processor sports 4MB of L2 cache and an 800MHz front-side bus.  Intel has removed overspeed protection on it for overclocking and higher performance.

The Core 2 Extreme X7800 has power saving features and Advanced Media Boost to help out laptop power users in the business world giving users desktop performance in a laptop package.

The processor costs $851 to laptop makers, so it is not going to be in any bargain bin soon.  Word is you’ll see laptops featuring this processor in 2 weeks.
