As far as mobile search and directions applications are concerned, Google and Microsoft better move over and they better do it fast! Infospace Find It permits users to enter multiple points to search for businesses, people (missing and otherwise) and directions just as they do, but they have also added a few new features that their competitors don’t have and probably wish they did.
InfoSpace Find It sorts all searches by name, category and by maps and directions. While other applications may do this as well, Find It’s triumph is that not only can you get directions in list form or by each action, you can also get a strong male voice (a tad tinny) dictate exactly where you should go. Also, upon locating a specific individual or business, users can click-to-call, view a map, get directions, save the entry to the address book and see what else is nearby. Having a voice dictate directions is obviously much safer and much more of a realistic solution to being lost than Google’s admonition to “not drive while navigating.”
Other search avenues are available but only for the Blackberry interface. Users can search for businesses in any one of six different categories with the help of the click-to-call features and mapping. Find It does not zero in on GPS or approximate locations like Google Maps does, nor does it permit the user to “speak a location” like Windows Live Search for Mobile. You also can’t call your friends and tell them about the whole new world you discovered unless you do it in the traditional way.
Infospace Find It is available as an over the air (OTA) download and through PC installation.
