Earlier today, if you placed a Google search between 6:30 a.m. PST and 7:25 a.m. PST, every result would have been marked as harmful to your computer. Naturally, people take what Google says to heart and probably wouldn’t click on any of those links. The less gullible people probably suspected a mistake and would continue searching for whatever they needed, because can the Google homepage be harmful to your computer?
Basically, Google likes to protect their users, so if a website is known to attempt to install viruses, spyware, etc. on your computer, it will mark it as harmful. They work with StopBadware.org, a non-profit organization, to flag results as harmful. Now, today they were working on updating that list, and accidentally, a ‘/’ was entered into a value field. The ‘/’ is actually very significant because it makes every URL out there harmful. Soon enough, a Google team responded to this error and quickly fixed. All in all, this problem only lasted for about 40 minutes.
It’s nice to know that Google responded to it in a fast and efficient manner.
