HTC Magic shows up at FCC with T-Mobile logo

by Shawn Ingram on Mar 27, 2009 at 10:18 AM

HTC Magic/T-Mobile G2Back in January, HTC announced the HTC Magic for release on the Vodafone network in the UK.  There was a bit of speculation and concern as to whether or not the Android phone would make it to the US any time soon.  It seems we can stop worrying now, as its all but official now.

The HTC Magic, or what most assume will be called the G2 when it reaches T-Mobile’s network has been submitted and dissected by the FCC.  The phone has T-Mobile branding just above the screen, as well as on the back of the case, which isn’t surprising at all.  What is a bit surprising, is the camera upgrade for the US market.  When HTC announced the Magic, it had a 3.2 MP camera on the back.  The T-Mobile branded phone submitted to the FCC says it has a 5.0 MP camera.  True, it won’t be a great camera because of the fact that is on a phone, but its still pretty neat.

The rest of the phone’s features are the same, no physical keyboard, touchscreen, 3G, Wi-Fi, bluetooth, etc.  There are rumors placing the Magic debuting as the G2 as early as next month, which would make sense if it’s just been filed by the FCC.  Even so, now that we know its coming, it would be rather ridiculous of T-Mobile to hold it back for much longer.  While the phone may not appeal to everyone who wanted and/or bought a G1 because it lacks that physical keyboard, it will be nice to have something of a choice between two Android phones.
