Hands on with the HP Mini-Note 2140

Walking the show floor tonight at Digital Experience we were able to chat with a rep from HP and get some hands-on time with the new HP Mini-Note 2140. The 2140 is the follow up to the existing Mini-Note 2133 and seems to have improved on anything that was lacking on the 2133, while keeping all of the good.

Just to give you an idea, the display size has been increased from the original 8.9-inches up to a nice (and what I consider usable) 10-inches.  The near full sized (92%) keyboard remains the same as do the ports and connectivity options.  One noticeable difference is the speaker placement, which moves them from the left and right of the display to below it.  That move allows for the extra room to accommodate the slightly larger display.

Another nice point, which may only affect those looking to upgrade from a 2133 is that the battery is interchangeable between models.  Similar to the 2133, the 2140 is available with either a 3-cell or 6-cell battery.  It was also mentioned that we can expect to see a better battery life on the 2140 as compared to the 2133, which based on my use with the 2133 was already pretty good.

Finally, and perhaps the change that I am most excited to hear about is in regards to the processor, gone is the VIA C7M and in comes the more netbook familiar Atom.
