Google Voice now offering SMS to email

Google has just recently added a new, and what I would consider a welcomed feature in Google Voice—the ability to have your SMS messages forwarded to your email.
The new feature is currently available and simple to set up. To do so, just login to your Google Voice account and click on the Settings link in the upper right hand corner. Once there, go to Voicemail & SMS, then check the box next to SMS Forwarding. Simple and easy.
One of the perks with having your SMS messages forwarded to your email is that you can now view your SMS messages as well as your regular email messages all in one place. It also means that you will now have a searchable archive of your SMS messages without having to store them all on your phone. Of course, that searchable archive could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on who you ask. What that means to me is that I am further heading into the land of Google, but I think I am finally OK with that.
Additionally, Google has taken the SMS message forwarding one step further and made them usable from your email. In other words you can easily reply to those messages as if you were sending a reply email.

OK, so I’m one of the few people who still uses e-mail and avoids SMS. This new feature would be a good thing for me - there are folks who send me text messages which I reply to by e-mail, so having the message come to my mailbox would makes things easy-peasy for me.
Question: when GV makes the switchover from SMS to e-mail, does it do so with another SMS? I pay per message (note: any advice to change this will be cheerfully disregarded: it’s how I roll), so if GV redirects as e-mail, I’m golden; if they use up another text message, not so much. Anybody know?
Thanks.
