Google planning to release GrandCentral 2.0, but when?
It has been a very long time now since we have seen any changes with GrandCentral and most people expect it to be killed off. After all, GrandCentral has sat quietly pretty much since Google acquired it back in 2007. Then, just about a week ago, users who logged in were greeted with an expired SSL certificate notice and that seemed like the end was imminent. Of course, a little bit of good news did come out of that snafu. According to a comment from Jeff Huber “a new version on new infrastructure will be coming soon.”
Sadly, aside from this brief message, there is not much real news, but at least there is still hope. After all, GrandCentral did promise me “one number for life” and my life is not quite ready to end yet.
Hopefully we will see a version 2.0 rolling out sooner than later and that Google will either release more invitations or simply open it up for everyone. I have been a GrandCentral user for quite a while, and while I hope it remains active, I have been hesitant to really give my number out in fear that I will end up losing it.

I hope Google doesn’t kill off GC. I’ve been using it for a long time, and it’s in my communication DNA. I think I would cry… .
on February 9, 2009 at 11:44 AM - LINKI just wrote a blog post on what features should be in the next version of Google GrandCentral. And I posted a survey, so that you can voice your opinion too.
Maybe we can influence what Google does…. maybe. ;-)
