Just recently, during the annual BookExpo convention in New York, Google announced plans to begin selling ebooks.  Right off the bat, you would think they have to do something to one up Amazon in order to properly fight in that space, however it seems Google may have a nice plan in the works. 

According to the New York Times article, is sounds like Google may be able to attract some attention from the publishers thanks to their pricing structure.  You see, instead of the publishers agreeing to the current pricing schedule for the Kindle store, Google is going to let them set a “suggested list price.”  Of course, Google did also say that they could adjust (lower) the price if it was thought to be “exorbitant.”

Additionally, it looks like all of this will be ready for the public to enjoy by the end of this year.  Of course, what would an ebook store be without a reader to go with it?  It seems that Google has plans for that also. They will allow their ebooks to be read on any device with internet access, in other words, you will not need a dedicated reader such as the Sony Reader or Amazon Kindle. 

You will be able to read the Google ebooks on anything from computers to mobile phones.  Overall, this sounds like it could be an interesting move, if nothing else just to see what others big players such as Amazon and B&N will do.  Sadly though, aside from this NYT article there was currently very little information available.
