Gadgetell: Tell us about what you do.
Taylor: Basically what we do is like Google Maps for movies. We’ve built this tool that companies and individuals can build on to make theirs. We provide the APIs so you can really nail the look and feel without interfering with the efficient functionality of our slick movie distribution. It is a developer app, not a widget.
Gadgetell: How did you get into this?
Taylor: Working in the movie industry, it became clear there was no good way to purchase a file and certainly no professional platform to get movie purchases out there. Only about 2% of features made get distribution so there are a lot of film makers out there looking for another way to get movies out there.
Gadgetell:So where can this store be built?
Taylor: That is the really fun part: you can put it anywhere. MySpace/Facebook, movie page, or build a whole store. If you can imagine it, you can build it.
Gadgetell: I can imagine a lot, how about on mobile sites?
Taylor: Absolutely! This is perfect for Android developers or mobile iPhone stores. The media is H.264 iPod compatible and Windows Media compatible.
Gadgetell: What is the pricing structure?
Taylor: We’ve got three plans:
Pro: Access to all systems, no charge up front. Medeploy gets a % of sales.
Enterprise: Adds liscenses, no revenue sharing; adds controls
Indie version: slims down features and pays revenue share.
For the Pro and Indie versions, Medepoly collects the credit card processing and pays once a month.
Gadgetell: Who do you see as your customer?
Taylor: we are going after movie studios, broadcasters and then the smaller guys like the indie film maker looking to sell his work. It is a broad spectrum that can use a product like Medeploy.
Gadgetell: I’ll apologize up front if this shows where my mind is, but I would think the porn industry might be real excited about your tools.
Taylor: Porn is going to be huge for us. By allowing easy and simple store building tools, hassle free payment collection and complete controls, porn is going to be huge for Medeploy and we don’t have a problem with that.
At this point, Taylor took me through their controls and tools for would be movie distributors. They are impressive. From geo-control or the abilty to control what countries can download your movie (licsenses often limit by country) to the simple system to add a movie (complete with trailer) to the store; everything to get up and running seemed like something I could do in ten minutes. And if I can do then your pet parrot could as well. These tools were well thought out and appeared idiot proof.
The ability to drill down on info was obviously a priority to the design team. From country stats to which link is getting the most attention to how many trailers viewed, everything seemed easy to figure out and customize. I’ve had some experience in building online stores with template like tools and this blew them away. It actually made me want to go make some movies to sell, like my idea for alternate endings to my favorite movies…
Gadgetell: Thanks for your time Chris.
