Firefox 2.0 Beta RC 1 released with new features

by Adam Berger on Jul 12, 2006 at 03:03 PM

FirefoxAfter six months since the last major release of the Firefox software. Since then we have seen a few beta versions of IE7 in addition to the release of Opera 9 and Flock. Firefox 2.0 has added some much needed features all rolled up in a package that is almost the same at Fx 1.5. The two new significant features are an integrated spell checker and an anti-phishing tool. The spell-checker promises to make blog and forum postings much easier (surely decreasing the number of spelling mistakes on Gadgetell) and the phishing filter (an integrated component of IE 7.0 as well) works with locally stored lists of bad sites, along with Google’s site listing, and possibly others down the road taking another step to protecting yourself online. Firefox 2.0 includes horizontal scrolling capability for tabs (as opposed to making the tab mini when you have 30 open) and finally the ability to close a tab directly from within the tab itself. 2.0 also improves the functionality and reliability on Intel-Macs as well.

Now please remember that this is a beta version so there will be bugs. If you want to play it safe download this portable version because the full version will wipe your extensions, overwrite your current version, etc…

Update: Besides the links below here is the direct link to the Firefox 2.0 Beta 1 download and info page.
