Cybook Gen3 e-book reader now available
Bookeen has just released the Cybook Gen3 e-book reader. The Gen3 will begin shipping in October for $350. The Gen3 e-book reader will offer a battery life of 8,000 page flips between charges, weighs just 6.13 ounces, has a 2.5mm stereo earphone connector, 64MB of internal memory with an SD card slot for additional storage and USB connectivity. The display is a 6-inch Vizplex E Ink screen that is black and white and is daylight readable. The Gen3 has support for Mobipocket titles, PalmDoc, HTML, TXT and PDF files. In addition to the e-book’s the Gen3 will also support JPG, GIF, PNG and MP3 files for music.
While the Gen3 seems to offer some good competition for the Sony PRS-505 I am having a hard time getting behind an e-book reader.

I’ve been reading about those eBook readers for nearly a year now and never saw one on the market for sale. I don’t know if it could be considered a very cool gadget or expensive junk. Looking at the price I’m betting on the second option.

on November 6, 2007 at 04:41 AM - LINKThe technology behind these is cool. No more eyestrain. The price tag is because it’s new technology. When it gets cheap enough and advanced enoguht that it’s actual digital paper that you can roll up and put in your pocket THEN this will be an idea worth buying into. Another ten years after that it’ll be cheap enough to make cereal boxes out of (and with NXT speaker technology they could have sound too). Then we’ll curse the day that this technology was ever invented.

Jonathan, You can purchase it from Bookeen http://www.bookeen.com/ in France for $350 standard or $450 Deluxe or you can place an order with NAEB (Not another e-book), which is a group of BAEN fans in the US who banded together to make a group purchase at a special deal. See: http://naebllc.com/
