Cricket intro’s the CDM7126 by UTStarcom; world’s first CDMA AWS mobile phone

Cricket Communications has launched the world’s first CDMA Advanced Wireless Service (AWS) mobile phone - the UTStarcom CDM7126. The CDM7126 will also be available in other Cricket markets nationwide, but initially the launch is limited to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The CDM7126 was designed to operate on the new AWS spectrum band and also operates on the PCS and cellular bands. This allows the phone to work in all existing Cricket wireless markets that stretch from California to New York. The phone will be launched in other states later during the year.

Al Moschner, Cricket’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer said that his company is pleased to be the first to offer an AWS wireless phone to its customers.

“Taking this leadership position underscores our commitment to fostering product innovation by introducing CDMA’s first tri-band mobile device that enables multi-market use. This introduction marks the successful conclusion of two years of planning and development by UTStarcom and Cricket,” says Moschner.

The CDM7126 is a metallic, clamshell phone with external indicators. This alerts users of incoming calls and messages even if the clamshell phone is closed. Other features of the CDM7126 include; Bluetooth capability, voice recognition, predictive text input and mobile web capability. The CDM7126 will be available through various Cricket call plans starting at the lowest $35 per month.
