Consumers happy with current options for sharing photos

Digital Camera

Remember back in the old days when you had to take pictures with film, then get it processed, and then finally order prints?  Nowadays, you can press a few buttons on your cell phone, and your friend across the country can receive your picture.  You can even upload digital pictures from your camera onto your computer for safekeeping, and then order prints with ease.

The Consumer Electronics Association sponsored a study called, Digital Imaging: A Focus on Sharing.  In one part of their study, they found that 65% of all consumers are happy with the options that they have in sharing photos, protecting photos, and backing them up.

Meanwhile, 63% are happy with the options they have in storing photos.  For example, if you own an external hard drive, I bet a good amount of the files stored on it are photos.  In addition, President Obama’s official portrait was taken with a digital camera, becoming the first president to do so.  That will surely go down in the history books among other things.

Chris Ely, CEA Senior Research Analyst, had this to say about digital cameras:

“Digital cameras are becoming increasingly pervasive enjoying a 77 percent household penetration rate, not to mention other popular consumer electronics devices such as cell phones that are capable of taking digital photographs. President Barack Obama became the first U.S. president to have his official portrait taken with a digital camera showing how pervasive digital photography has become.”

Here are some interesting statistics, based on the last event consumers went to, they took an average of 72 digital pictures, and shared 51% of these.  Now, to share these pictures, 55% used e-mail, 48% just showed them off from their computer, and 40% used online hosting.  Now, printing photos for some people is just as important as storing them for others.  Many people either print at home, or upload and print at a store.  Many users use MySpace, Faceboook, Photobucket, and Snapfish.

If you don’t own a digital camera yet, you may definitely want to if your budget allows.  It will make taking pictures at memorable events a lot easier than traditional styles of taking pictures.
