Cobra intros new NAV ONE 5000 GPS

During the upcoming CES, Cobra, a GPS manufacturer, will have on display their new type of GPS dubbed the NAV ONE 5000. Straying away from the usual GPS models made for truck drivers, this new GPS is basically a good choice for anyone.
Cobra touts that this GPS screen shows 20% more of the road ahead than any other traditional widescreen units. It comes with a 50% larger text font than many other GPS models and it comes with enhanced back light, thus making everything on the screen much more easier to see and read. It will also come with speed and red light locations, making your commute or ride that much better.
Tony Mirabelli, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Cobra, had this to say regarding the new GPS,
“Safety on the road is an ever-present concern for today’s driver, and we’re responding to that concern with the new NAV ONE 5000, the unit offers a design and feature set that enhances driver safety and alertness, such as its easy-to-view OptiView screen and speed and red light camera alerts for dangerous intersections.”
Another cool feature of the NAV ONE 5000 is the “My Favorite bands” feature, which allows you to choose your favorite brands of let’s say restaurants and then those restaurants will pop up on your screen. This would definitely come in handy in case you were looking for a hotel, restaurant, etc. The traffic service features up-to-the-minute traffic data, and the subscription comes with traffic information of 69 major areas in the United States. It also comes with Bluetooth, turn-by-turn voice guidance, and 7.6 million POI’s. It is set to cost around $510, and will be on sale at leading retailers.
If you want to check out this and other Cobra products, be sure to check out their CES booth.

Just bought one. Microphone VERY bad. No listing of accessories although unit has jacks for external speaker, microphone and antenna. My unit differs from pictured one on box and user manual in that it has a phone icon in middle of menu. Pressing it takes you to screen showing “Voice Call”. Press it - nothing happens. No indication ANYWHERE of what it should do. On line, Tech Call, - nothing. ( I suspect it is (should be ) coupled with voice recognition - but no “training” or other association anywhere I can find.
Aside from all of this - it seems like a GREAT unit and is certainly comprehensive in it’s maps, etc.
on January 24, 2008 at 07:22 PM - LINKSame problem as Philip D. Griggs. Where on earth is information about the GPS external antenna? where does one buy it?? What does it cost?? Under what circumstances would I need it?? If (as is asserted) it already comes with a GPS capability, what additional benefit am I getting with purchase of the external antenna??
on February 19, 2008 at 02:31 AM - LINKI can’t set the GPS feature on, the unit will not work unless connected to the cigarette lighter or the AC adapt. it is like it has no batteries.
