Circuit City confused over difference between 700p and 700w

by Doug Berger on Jun 17, 2006 at 09:16 PM

Treo 700p

Having a good attention to detail can sometimes be amusing.  I was in Circuit City today and was checking out the Verizon phones (since they don’t have Sprint for me) and noticed a poster right by the entrance with a rather large mistake… so I snapped a picture on my phone.  The device pictured above is, as most of us know, the Palm Treo 700p.  Apparently the person that made the poster didn’t realize that there’s a difference between the 700p (PalmOS) and 700w (Windows Mobile 5.0).

You do realize that that’s Verizon’s fault right?  Verizion is in charge of all the Cell phone promo’s, sales, stocking, etc.  Circuit City just hold Verizon’s Mini Store in their stores.

Verizon Wireless is most definitely liable in this case, not Circuit City.  Verizon Wireless and Circuit City may be partner businesses but that does not mean that the same group of people put together the ad materials (aka signage).  When signage material is delivered to a Circuit City store it is delivered by various shippers (UPS, FEDEX, DHL).  Both Verizon Wireless and Circuit City signage materials may be delivered by the same truck, but this by no means obligates Circuit City to adhere to anything Verizon puts in the stores.  The two companie’s signage materials come from different sources and the businesses do not share cash pools.  How can Circuit City be held reliable for a Verizon Wireless mistake?  Shouldn’t you be going after the people who are responsible for the phones (ie Verizon Wireless)?
