Cingular will release the 8525 3G smartphone on November 16

by Adam Berger on Nov 8, 2006 at 03:00 AM

Cingular 8525The Cingular 8525 is the first HSDPA/UMTS enabled, 3G smartphone for the US. The handset includes a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, touchscreen, quad-band EDGE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi—man this thing is connected. The device runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 5, Windows Media 10, has a 2 megapixel camera, and a microSD slot.

Designed for multitasking, the HSDPA allows users to perform data transfers and talk at the same time. This will allow users to send a photo and then discuss it, for example. In addition, it uses Bluetooth 2.0, which means that the device can communicate with multiple Bluetooth devices at the same time (such as a headset and Bluetooth GPS receiver).

On November 16th, for $399 and a two year contract you can walk away to anywhere in the world with this tri-band HSDPA handset.

Can anyone confirm that this Cingular 8525 has UMTS 1900 and 2100 bands?

  • Sam said:

Yes, the 8525 is based on the HTC TyTn or Hermes, but it does have the 3 UMTS bands.

Are you sure that’s a tri-band phone? I own the Cingular 8125 and it’s a quad band based on the HTC Wizard as is the 8525. I think you may want to change the specs that you have listed at the end of your post. Regards,
