Cingular is next to team-up with MySpace
Cingular has launched a MySpace integration application, available for $2.99 a month on top of your regular bill, which lets you browse, search, upload pics and read/respond to messages on the social networking site. Chris, over at SlashGear, took it upon himself to immediately contact the leader in the mobile MySpace field, Helio. Here is what Justin Ried, Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications at Helio, said…
Helio’s new MySpace application, available to download within the next sixty days, will boast features like enhanced camera integration for real-time sharing of photos on your profile, click-free access to alerts, friend requests, event invites and messages from the cellphone’s idle screen, improved functionality for editing your profile from your Helio including changing headlines, relationship status and images, all using a completely rebuilt cellphone UI with custom styles, improved graphics and animations.
Clearly, this was a huge deal for Cingular as offering MySpace on one of the four major carriers will hurt Helio. The Helio proposition may be great and Helio was the first to market, but how do you compete with a carrier that already has millions of subscribers that won’t have to switch, but only add $3 a month to their bill? It will be interesting to see how this pans out for Helio and for Cingular.

Thanks for the mention, Adam. Personally I’m hoping that Helio get through this Cingular competition, because it’ll be interesting seeing how the rest of their functionality develops. GPS seems to figure big in their plans, and while I wouldn’t sign up to either carrier for MySpace access (since I don’t use it), location services might persuade me.
