CES 2008 Press Conference: Sony

Like always Sony has made us trek all the way over to the convention center for their press conference. We are expecting, besides the regular announcements (LCD TVs, OLED displays, cameras, new computers, new Blu-ray players), a new and improved Mylo 2. The Readers and many Bravia TV’s were sold out this past season.
Sony’s sales in the US this holiday season has increased by double digits since last year.
A new model with 8 million pixels, up the ability to view up to four 1080p images at the same time. No date on that for shipment though.
Most will have new 3D interface with the ability to view video using a portable device.
Today the Bravia line will add 17 new models to include a new series in 40 & 46-inch.
Bravia will be the sole focus for 2008, leaving the micro display market to concentrate on flat panel.
3 new modules coming in the “very near” future. They include the Bravia DVD LInk, the Bravia Input Link and the Bravia Wireless Link.
Bravia Internet Video Link, have recently added a few new media partners with several more coming.
Going back to the( getting old now) format war, Blu-ray has held a “2 to 1” over the competing format.
Sony has nveiled many new products this past year. New internal BD-Rom drive, for less than $200
Blu-ray has mad incredible strides this past year.
Introducing Randy Waynick
TransferJet, it will let users send digital images or video at more than 500Mb per second…giving us a nice demo and offering to come “see it in person.”
Will be in stores later this month.

Its the Sony nav-u and had Position Plus, with the ability to display brands for your retail locations en route. The larger 4.8 inch display model also offers Bluetooth.

New category where entertainment comes via text. The Sony Reader
3.5-inch display, backlit slide-out QWERTY keyboard, ability to upload and edit photos with the built-in camera.
Creating a new category, it provides a new way to listen. Feature 2gb Flash memory,built-in speakers, content can be loaded from a PC or Bluetooth enabled phone or PC.

What about the PS3? Any big news?
On BluRay, why is it that the poorest technology always seems to win… Look at Beta vs VHS. BluRay only had a slight edge on capacity and even that is now gone with the triple layer. Oh well, we will see what happens over the next year…
