Canon, not to be outdone by itself in announcing the VIXIA HF S11, is also announcing a number of new digital cameras and printers.  The line-up includes six new digital cameras, including a new flagship PowerShot G-series, and four new printers, including two All-In-Ones with built-in Wi-Fi.  It’s a barrage of products that can make it a bit hard to digest at first, with every product coming to market within the next two months.

Canon’s newest digital cameras

To start we have Canon’s new digital cameras, half of which are capable of shooting full 720p video in addition to still images.  The standouts here are the PowerShot G11 and the PowerShot S90.  The G11 combines the small form factor similar to a point-and-shoot, while adding DSLR functionality.  It holds a 10 MP “High Sensitivity System” with a 28mm wide-angle lens.  The LCD screen in 2.8” using Canon’s PureColor System LCD for viewing the screen and nearly any possible angle, which should make shooting at odd angles much easier.  The S90 holds the same High Sensitivity System, minus the wide-angle lens, and brings the PureColor System LCD up to 3.0”.  Both can handle both RAW and JPEG images.  The G11 is capable of adjusting the ISO and exposure settings, which is the main difference between the two aside from the wide-angle lens and differences in optical zoom (5x for G11, 3.8x for S90).

The cameras also include refreshes of the PowerShot SX-series and SD ELPH-series which includes Canon’s first touch-screen camera.

Canon’s newest printers

For the printers, Canon is introducing two new AIOs, which both include Wi-Fi for easy network connection.  Of the two, the PIXMA MP990 stands out by also offering a gray ink cartridge for better photo printing, as well as scanning and printing from film and slides, making it easy to print old photographs as well as newer ones.  The printers also include a new SELPHY photo printer which promises to make printing photos even easier, and a new business-class inkjet printer.  The PIXMA iX7000 Inkjet Business Printer is meant to increase productivity in business with “advanced paper handling” and a three way paper feed both of which should improve printing speeds.
