California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has just signed a law that will ban teens from using a cell phones or mobile service devices such as a walkie-talkie, pager, a two-way messaging devices, PDA, or a laptop while driving, even with a hands-free device. This new law will take effect July 1st and affect drivers under the age of 18. Drivers over the age of 18 will still be allowed to use a phone with a hands free device.

“The simple fact is that teenage drivers are more easily distracted. They are young, inexperienced and have a slower reaction time,” Schwarzenegger said in a statement after he signed the legislation into law. “We want to eliminate any extra distractions so they can focus on paying attention to the road and being good drivers.”

Teens who choose to not follow this new law will be subject to a $20 fine for the first offense and $50 for any after that. The law does make an exception for an emergency call. With this new law California joins 15 other states and the District of Columbia.

thank you for saving me, and my family’s life, cuntwaffles.

this is ########. ANY teen that lives in southern california could ####### EASILY get $20 measly ####### dollars in a heartbeat without flinching from their parents here. “Oh hey daaaaady,  I reallllly reaalllly REAAAAAAlY want to go the mall with my friends. Can i have $20?  **bats eyelashes an obscene amount of times**”

there isn’t anything that actually informs the parents that the kids even got a ticket in CA.

Maybe if they sent the parents the ticket, and carried the normal traffic penalty of $250, then the parents would actually be like, “HOLY #### YOU LITTLE IDIOT!!”  take their phone away and actually do THEIR job as parents! This law has no teeth. nothing. this is purely symbolic.

I for one am sick of being cut off on the 5 every day by idiotic 16 year olds going 90 talking on their phones and weaving through lanes, thereby making me have to swerve through four lanes just to avoid these retards with no concerns for anyone.

thanks for making me feel safer assholes .

and who the #### isnt going to just put their phone under the window, therefore out of sight of any cop nearby when texting.  #### you, CA. thanks for wasting my tax dollars.

i am for cell phone driving however,it depends on the age of the driver. Many drivers are mature and skillfull enough to handle both tasks. The majority of teen drivers should limit themselves to using cell phones.
