Burn, Movielink, Burn

Movielink

Movielink announced today that it has signed a deal licensing technology from Sonic Solutions that will permit the downloading of Movielink’s online film content onto DVDs. Up until now, the one thing you couldn’t do with a digitally downloadable film (legally, anyway) was burn it to DVD. It was only viewable on a PC, laptop or portable device. Though an official launch date has yet to be offered, it seems this DVD barrier is soon to be broken.

Previously, studios have been very wary of allowing any sort of sharing of information between media, instituting Digital Rights Management (DRM) protections at every turn. In fact, it is still illegal to rip a DVD onto your harddrive. Going in the other direction, from PC to DVD, may soon be an option. Sonic Solutions assures the studios that DRM measures are in place with their software to prevent illegal copies of the DVDs from being made.
