Blockbuster started offering next generation rentals last November by offering 40 Blu-ray titles and 40 HD DVD titles in 250 of its retail stores but now just over 6 months later Blu-ray has won, at least for Blockbuster. According to Blockbuster 70% of consumers are renting Blu-ray instead of HD DVD and that has helped Blockbuster to decide to expand its next generation offerings with Blu-ray titles only. Starting next month Blockbuster will begin to offer Blu-ray in 1450 stores and while the plan to continue carrying the HD DVD titles they will remain only in the original 250 stores and not be expanded on. It looks like Blockbuster has decided which format is the winner, but have consumers?
