During these lean times, consumers are looking for ways to save money and this could mean cutting back on their monthly phone bill.  At the Consumer Electronics Show this year, ooma has unveiled the Telo, a new step towards more affordable phone service.

The appeal of ooma’s Telo service is that you can make calls to anywhere in the United States for free as well as reduce the amount that you spend on international calls.  The way that it works is that you pay the one time fee for the device, hook it up to your home phone line or high speed Internet connection and start making calls without receiving a monthly bill.

The Telo replaces the former versions of the ooma service, the Hub and the Scout.  This version is a cordless headset with such features, like music ringtones, speaker phone, call transfer, built in phonebook and high definition voice quality.

The current versions cost about $200-$300 at various electronics retailers, like Best Buy.  The Telo will be released publicly within the first half of 2009.
