Did you just realize that you left someone off of your holiday shopping list and now need to scramble to get him a gift? If you aren’t too close with him and he has yet to know a thing or two about gadgets, technology and pop-culture, you may want to consider picking up one of the Insignia MP3 players.
Best Buy’s private label brand, Insignia, offers two models: the Sport 2GB (NS-DA2G) and the Sport 1GB (NS-DA1G). Both models are 0.5” thin, weight 1.2 ounces, have a 1.2” OLED screen, built-in FM tuner, USB 2.0, have a rechargeable battery with 18 hours of playback time, and are PC and Mac compatible. They also both support MP3, WMA, WMA-DRM, PlaysForSure , Napster and Rhapsody subscription services and JPEG image files. The 2GB model also adds audible support.
I had a chance to play with both models (which are essentially identical) and was left rather impressed with the functionality and ease of use as compared to name brand players (check out the interface here). The 2GB price is right, the size is good, and they are easy to use for you non-tech folk. I suggest heading over to Best Buy to pick one up if you are currently in the market, or forgot to get someone a present.
You can get 1 GB for $79.99 or 2 GB for $99.99, not too bad if you don’t feel pressured to buy a iPod name brand.

I bought a 1G last year, and then a 2G this year. I love them! They are absolutely the smallest way to carry music around. But what makes them better than other brands is the buttons which are large, easy to navigate, and rubber coated. Heads above the other players which have buttons too small to use and too delicate to last. And they are durable. I have dropped them and gotten them wet, and they still work.
I work with computers so I find transfering music easy. If you are comfortable with Explorer, My computer, Finder, etc. you will be fine with this. If not, find another brand. Yes, it could come with better instructions. And I wish that the fast forward and reverse functions worked faster, or were adjustable. And it would be great if it had a voice recorder, etc…
Still, I think that they are the best micro mp3 players around.

My problem is when I try to charge it’s battery: Windows does recognize the Mp3 player and it shows up on it’s screen like it was charging but no matter how much time I leave it charging, when I unplug it shows like it has almost no battery still.

I had songs on my mp3 and can’t delete them. I went into my folder and deleted everything. I also deleted songs in Rhapsody. All the songs that were previously downloaded are still there. Could it be because I recently updated the software? Can’t figure this out.

I have just buy an Insignia MP3 and I have a problem ... when I put music on it, I can listen to it, but the MP3 player doesn’t recognize the name of the artists. thus, I cannot know to which song I am listening ... Is this problem linked to the fact that I have a Mac ?

Please help me, I am having a frustrating problem with the (Insignia Sport NS-DA2G model) it was working fine up until yesterday, and when the library was re-building it froze on me. I have reset it and took the battery out, and reset it, time and time again. Hooked it up to the pc and it freezes up always in the same starting window Insignia file & folder (green window.) Anyone now how fix/reboot it to make it work??? It started back up this morning and the screen said synching, and then ok to disconnect as soon I pulled the plug and turned it on it froze up again. Please use my email address if anyone knows how to fix this or tell me whats wrong with it???! I don’t know how I found this site and may loose track of it. Thanks in advance Kilo

Superb product! Runs effortlessly in both WinXP and Linux. I use it to sync with WMP11 and Amarok, and the occasional drag-n-drop onto the Insignia NS-DA2G.

My media player is synchronizing the songs to the player its saying but when I go to the mp3 player the songs are either in chineseish type lettering or not there..this is frustrating the hell out of me!

Ive tried through Rhapsody, Windows Media & a Media Converter..Messages like “this file isnt compatible with your device” or “Due to thread exit or application request” I tried updating firmware but nothing is working. I printed out the manual online but it doesnt have any helpful tips.. if someone cant help me, Ill be returning this and getting a diffrent name brand! Please Help!!!

Pros:
-decent sound quality
-great video quality (omgosh I can READ the subtitles on my videos :D)
CONS:
on August 22, 2007 at 11:50 PM - LINK-The directions that come with the mp3 player are worse than useless because they are so general. The specifics are not touched at all. I expected to at least have 1 full page of directions but I ended up getting even less than half a sheet.
-Right after I bought it I had to reset the entire thing and ended up losing all of the audio books :[
-Must be charged on pc which I find annoying because when you only have you’re laptop, its a bummer
-The screen only dims and does not go out for a while which makes it rather blinding in dark places
-I absolutely HATE the headphones since it’s the type where one side is longer than the other. Since I’ve bought this I’ve had to use another set since these have absolutely gotten on my nerves!
-The cover that comes with it also covers the screen in a way that leaves these air bubbles thus I always have to lift the cover and smooth it out only to have to fix it again because viewing video becomes impossible with them.
I have mine hooked up to a Rhapsody to Go account, and am downloading any of their jillion songs on it pretty easily. Occasional hinky behavior, but hey, it’s a computer not a toaster. I to would like to see more accessories. My Best Buy (didn’t have to take the Greyhound) is stone out of all the arm band holders and such, which I want. That says how popular the product is. And now I notice thae ebay is stuffed with “AS-IS” broken units. Looks like the screen is prone to breakage.
Does anyone actually watch videos on these things?
on August 28, 2007 at 06:04 PM - LINKI just recently bought a used Insignia DV2G mp3 player off of ebay and I don’t have the media converter software that comes with the mp3 player when you purchase it from a store. Does anyone have a copy of the media converter software?

on September 27, 2007 at 03:57 AM - LINKi brought this to school to backup something on an iMac and i noticed it wasnt showing the names, authors, or albums of the songs, so when i came home, i checked it on my windows cpu and all of the names of the files were blank, WHAT HAPPENED!
