AT&T has promised to offer its “naked DSL” service by years end. Of course this is not because they had a change of heart and decided to offer something that a lot of consumers would want, the service is being offered because they were ordered to do it by the FCC as a part of their deal to purchase BellSouth. “Naked DSL” is simply a having DSL internet service without a traditional landline.
While this offer sounds great, AT&T has yet to announce any specific plans. That means we still need to find out just how fast it will be and more important how much it will cost.
Consumers have had the option to get a cable modem with no cable TV service for a long time, it may cost a few dollars extra but the option is at least there, it seems strange that companies like AT&T would resist for so long.
