AT&T brings the first 3G walkman phone to the US market; the Sony Ericsson W760a

by Arnold Zafra on Oct 14, 2008 at 09:51 AM

Sony Ericsson W760aAT&T’s latest offering, the Sony Ericsson W760a Walkman phone may not be that big as other mobile phone announcements made recently, but it certainly scored a first for the U.S. mobile phone market—the first 3G Walkman phone ever to hit stateside.

The W760a like the previous Sony Ericsson Walkman phones, W350 and W580 released by AT&T, features Sony’s famous Walkman music player and AT&T’s Mobile Music applications.  You’ll have access to XM Radio, eMusic mobile and Napster on the W760a.

Perhaps what makes the W760a a good music phone is its accelerometer.  This feature would enable you to shake or tilt the phone to fast-forward track selections.  The accelerometer also adds to the fun of playing mobile games in the W760a.  To make it even a more pleasant gaming experience, Sony Ericsson has included dedicated gaming buttons.

And of course, the Sony Ericsson W760a is the first 3G-enabled Walkman phone for the U.S. market and as such you can pretty much enjoy roaming features and stay connected online where ever there is a 3G network, and by that we mean globally.

Other highlights include a full HTML browser, IM, and a 3.2-megapixel camera.

The W760a Walkman phone is available now at all AT&T outlets.  It will set you back for $129.99 if you agree to a two-year contract and take advantage of a rebate.  You can pick up a red or black version anywhere.  If you want a silver edition, first head to Radio Shack since they have an exclusive on the silver version for a limited time.

If you’re not keen on getting Sony Ericsson’s upcoming Xperia X1 and are into music phones, then the W760a would be a good choice.
