Thanks to some recently surfaced images, it looks like we are going to see yet another model in the Eee PC 701 lineup. This latest model is the Eee PC 701SDX and assuming these images and information are accurate it looks like Asus is returning to the low pricing that made the Eee popular in the first place.
While the official details of the 701SDX are still unknown, it does appear to have slightly updated casing as compared to the original 701. It also appears to have the nicer trackpad that was found on the 701SD. Otherwise, the SDX has had the built-in webcam removed, which will only help to keep that price low.
The 701SDX will be available in black, white or pink. Perhaps the best part is the rumored price tag—a nice sub-$300, which we can only assume really means $299.
Other rumored features include an Atom processor, 4 or 8GB SSD and Windows XP. At this point, I would say this is just another in an endless line of Asus Eee PC netbooks, but, the lower price is refreshing. Hopefully, we will see Asus continue to push the barrier on pricing instead of moving more towards luxury models as they have recently shown with the S101.
