Asus Eee PC

Asus has announced details for their new low cost Eee PC. The “Easy to Learn, Easy to Work, Easy to Play” computer for “complete mobile internet enjoyment” will be available in four models; the 8g, 4G, 4G Surf and 2G Surf. Each model will feature a 7-inch display, Intel CPU & Chipset, Ethernet, WLAN, hi-definition audio stereo speaker, microphone and will be able to run Linux or Windows XP.

The 8G and 4G will feature a built in camera and have 3.5 hours of battery life. The 8G will include an 8GB SSD (solid-state disk) with 1GB RAM and the 4G will include a 4GB SSD (solid-state disk) with 512MB RAM.

The 4G Surf and 2G Surf will both offer 2.8 hours of battery life. The 4G Surf will feature a 4GB SSD (solid-state disk) with 512MB RAM and the 2G Surf will feature a 2GB SSD (solid-state disk) with 256MB RAM.

While these can run Windows XP, the 2G Surf with 256MB of RAM looks like it would be much better off with Linux. The Asus Eee PC is expected to be available within a few weeks and pricing will range from $299-$399.
