Apple updates the wired and wireless keyboards
In addition to the iMac, iLife, iWork and .Mac updates Apple also has an updated version of the wired and wireless keyboards. Both the wired and wireless versions are the new slim design that feature the anodized aluminum enclosure.
The wired USB keyboard now had a wide variety of hot keys to include document navigation control, Expose, brightness, volume, eject and more. While some of the hot (control) keys have been available on previous Apple keyboards the new layout make them a little more noticeable. The keyboard also has two USB 2.0 ports to allow for quick and easy connection for USB devices. The wired keyboard will retail for $49.00.
The Bluetooth wireless keyboard has some nice improvements over previous wireless keyboards but there are some things that just seem to be missing. Apple has improved the battery life by adding “intelligent power management”, which means the keyboard will automatically power down when not in use and start up when you begin typing. However the numeric keypad has been left off this new design and gives the keyboard a look very similar in size to a notebook keyboard. The wireless keyboard will retail for $79.00.
Overall the new keyboard layouts are similar in touch and feel to the current MacBook. Normally I would go with the Bluetooth wireless keyboard with a new Mac purchase but in this case I may have to go with the wired keyboard or just stick with my current Apple wireless keyboard. I am sure I cannot be the only one disappointed with the “new and improved” Apple wireless keyboard, it just seems strange to me that they would leave off the numeric keypad.

This CUTTED Wireless keyboard is p a t h e t i c !!!
Also, the new iMacs (despite having really great configs) are pretty ugly. I used to admire Apple’s simplist design, but now they’re trying to present soemething new more than something really great.
on August 8, 2007 at 07:31 PM - LINKThe numerical keypad was left off the wireless keyboard for one reason. Safari is coming to Apple TV. This is the reason Apple announced the Apple TV to be only compatible with High Def TV’s as well. Even though it isn’t.
on August 16, 2007 at 03:40 PM - LINKSafari WILL come to Apple TV and when it does it will look great on a High Def Set and you will be glad the wireless keyboard has no numerical keypad.
