Apple patent suggests touchscreen on back of devices

by Indraneel Purohit on May 11, 2007 at 01:29 AM

nano iPod iPhone touchscreenWith electronics getting smaller and smaller everyday, it would seem that manufacturers would be running out of space to put any sort of control functionality in.

Apple, perhaps the industry’s leading innovator, chose to do the simplest thing possible, according to these patents. While space on the front of a product may be all but gone, recent patents show that Apple is prepping a touch screen interface on the back of one of their devices (iPod or future iPhone)—kinda sorta like the Samsung Upstage. The screen will be “force sensitive” much like the iPhone and could double as a keyboard or mouse, not just a click wheel.

As with most patents, there is no word as to if this will ever be on any product of Apple’s but it does create quite the buzz.
