Apple and Lionsgate to introduce Digital Copy for iTunes with Blu-ray and DVD releases

Lionsgate recently closed a deal with Apple to deliver digital versions of the movies to be played in iTunes. As a leading independent film studio, Lionsgate, is set to make iTunes transfer and iPod viewing a cinch for those who buy their DVD and Blu-ray movies.

The first movies in line from Lionsgate to be distributed with iTunes Digital Copy is the latest Sylvester Stallone installment of Rambo, which is set to be released on May 27 and Jessica Alba’s The Eye which is set to be released later this summer.

Currently home to more than 12,000 titles in their library, Lionsgate sees that their partnership with Apple on the Digital Copy for iTunes as a perfect example of how new digital technology and packaged media like DVDs and the recent victor Blu-ray can benefit consumers. Since more and more people are looking for newer viewing options, Lionsgate has innovated ways on how to deliver video content in different formats—- the latest being the Digital Copy for iTunes.

Apple iTune’s vice-president Eddy Cue is equally happy with this recent partnership:

“We’re excited that Lionsgate is delivering so many of their great films on DVD and Blu-ray with an iTunes Digital Copy.“

Looks like both Liongate and iTunes are ready to take over the digital media world with this joint venture.
