AOL is free for all, changes their line to “You’ve got ads”

AOL breaks up

AOL has announced that its software and Email, as well as various other products will be made available for free to broadband users, just like everyone previous predicted. This will allows the company to maintain a high level of advertising revenue, a profit center that was in danger because of the decreasing subscriber base.

If you have a broadband internet connection you can get AOL’s software, AOL Email, instant messaging, a local phone number with unlimited incoming calls, social networking applications, and safety and security features, such as parental controls all for free. AOL is also trying to push AOL video and offering a personalized e-mail address: you@thenameyouwant.com—all for free. Finally, the company has unveiled plans to release a new version of software (it is unclear if it is the next version of what we know as the AOL portal or a new product) that is a “breakthrough” four-pane design that will, “revolutionize the way you use the Internet.“

Now aren’t you glad you spend $24.99 a month for the past 11 years?!?!
