American Airlines will be joining Jet Blue with their announcement of the availability of in-flight Wi-Fi. The new wireless internet will be available for a price and be available to all passengers. Initially the wireless will be on Boeing 767-200’s that fly transcontinental routes.
The wireless service is through Aircell and if the testing runs are successful it is expected to become available on all American Airlines flights in the future. The wireless signal will be received using three antennas installed on the outside of the airplane, two on the bottom and one on the top and will be 802.11a/b/g capable.
The wireless access is expected to cost $10, which sounds expensive, however if you consider the high fare that you have already paid to fly then a few extra dollars is not all that bad.
