Amazon’s making money

While many other top retailers are struggling to pull in a profit, Amazon.com has managed to remain a stronghold on the online marketplace.  During the fourth quarter, their revenue jumped 18 percent with a 31 percent increase in sales from international customers.  They beat analyst’s expectations by earning revenue of $6.7 billion instead of the predicted $6.4 billion.

The secret to Amazon’s success?  They price their products in a competitive way and offer many incentives to customers, like free shipping when a set purchase price minimum is reached.  They also continuously update their products and services catalog to offer cutting edge technologies, like the Kindle Reader.

Amazon’s sales are anticipated to continue to do well, especially with the expected February 9 announcement that a new version of Kindle will be released.  Traffic to the site has also increased; Amazon experienced a jump of 9.8% more web visitors than the previous year.
