By now most of us know that Amazon.com recorded its best Christmas ever this year.  The big question regarding its record breaking sales is how did it happen?  The obvious answer is that Amazon generally has low prices for most of its inventory.  Or perhaps its because of the Kindle.  Looking at a recent Internet survey, the answer would be that it has the highest customer satisfaction among popular Internet retailers.

The ForeSee survey has Amazon.com as the number one website with an 84 (out of 100) in customer satisfaction for 2008.  Tied for that rating is Netflix, which is actually down from 86 in 2007. 

QVC.com is third with 79.  Four websites are are listed with a 78 including Apple.com and NewEgg.com.  At the bottom of the top 10 is shopping hp.com which had the largest increase of any website.  In 2007, HP had a 71 customer satisfaction rating.  In 2008 that increased by five to a 76, putting it just below TigerDirect.com, Staples.com and AVON.com

For some reason it doesn’t surprise me that 4 of the top 10 list are exclusively tech retailers.  I haven’t used all of the sites on the list, but I do know that every order from Apple I’ve put in has been filled and shipped within a day or two.  I’ve also heard nothing but good things regarding NewEgg.  Check any popular product on the website and you’re bound to find one person who had it DOA, returned it to NewEgg and had it back within days.  Of course, nothing can really compete with the Internet juggernaut that is Amazon.com due to its shear size and recognition.
