Amazon has officially made the Kindle available for sale, just $399 for the reader and you will have access to more than 88,000 books that can be auto-delivered wirelessly in less than one minute.
The Kindle is easy to use with no computer, cables or syncing required, you will be able to use the included high-speed data network (EVDO) access at no additional cost to shop the Kindle Store. Just choose your title, buy your book and begin reading. Before you commit to buy you will be able to preview the first chapter just to be sure the title is for you. New releases and New York Times bestsellers will be available for just $9.99 each.
The Kindle will hold approx 200 titles and also has top newspapers available from the U.S., France, Germany, and Ireland along with top U.S. magazines to include TIME, Atlantic Monthly, and Forbes.
The Kindle features a 6-inch e-ink display at 600 x 800 pixel resolution, has an SD slot for additional storage, weighs just 10.3 ounces, is 7.5” x 5.3” x 0.7”, includes a built-in dictionary and has access to Wikipedia. The battery life is expected to last for “a week or more” with the wireless turned off and approx 2-days with the wireless turned on.
E-book readers have interested me for a while now, just not enough to win me over. The Kindle although not perfect has me closer to making a purchase than other available readers, mainly because of the ability to access and purchase new books from any location. It’s like having a virtual book store with you at all times. It should be interesting to see just how well the Kindle will sell.
