Amazon Kindle DX gets an official release date: June 10

by Iyaz Akhtar on Jun 1, 2009 at 11:53 AM

Amazon Kindle DX gets an official release date: June 109 days to go and you’ll be able to receive your Amazon Kindle DX.  The large screen ebook reader from Amazon was met with a curious response by the press.  Why exactly would Amazon release another Kindle so close to the release of the Kindle 2?

Some people have even speculated that the DX’s price tag of $489 was meant to make the Kindle 2’s price seem more palatable.  Amazon claimed that the device would serve a different purpose than the Kindle 2.

While we now have a release date of June 10, 2009, we still don’t know is more information on the subsidized Kindle DX.  When Jeff Bezos introduced the Kindle DX, he mentioned that the device would be cheaper if you bought it along with a subscription to a newspaper.  When this cheaper (at least on the upfront cost) device will become available is still not known.
