Aluminum 13-inch notebook computer for under $800? Not from Apple.
Maybe you’re a fan of that aluminum look, but you don’t want to break the bank on a MacBook. Averatec’s got a new laptop, the Averatec N3400, for $799 that has some decent features and some nice styling. 13.3-inch screen, with an Intel Dual Core 2.15GHz processor, 3GB of RAM (maxes out at 8GB), and a 250GB hard drive at under 4 pounds. While there is no internal optical drive, this Averatec comes packed with an external USB DVD/CD burner. As for the rest of the specs: 1.3 megapixel webcam, 3 USB 2.0 ports, memory card reader, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and 10/100/1000 Ethernet. If you’re looking for a step above a netbook, this one looks pretty good.
