Addonics announces SATA multiplier

The Addonics 5-port Hardware Port Multiplier (“HPM”) is here to let you hook up lots of SATA devices to your computer.  There are two versions.  The HPM-XA System Version that fits inside your computer where a PCI slot would be where it gives you 5 internal ports - you hook up your SATA controller to the HPM-XA and you’ve got 5 ports ready.  The other is the 5 Port HPM-XA Enclosure Version which fits into multi-bay enclosures (which Addonics also sells).  This is a good way to reuse an older machines to create a giant server for all your videos, photos, and music.  Each version of the HPM costs $99.

It is’t much more than $99 for motherboard with a ton of SATA ports, but if you max out SATA on a modern system then this could work for you.  I guess some people love to throw in tons of their spare HDDs for extra storage too.  let alone external hard drive enclosures has gone the way of the dinosaur.
