Acer looking to release a 3D enabled notebook

Digital 3D is becoming quite popular in movie theaters as of late. Even the latest Pixar film, “Up,” is using the technology. The only problem with Digital 3D is it tends to get lost in translation over to Blu-ray or DVD releases. Without a display that is made for the 3D technology it probably won’t look as good. Acer is looking to fix that problem with an upcoming notebook.
Acer’s first 3D enabled notebook is scheduled for an October release, or whenever Windows 7 is available. It will feature a 15.6 inch screen that will be capable of displaying 3D movies natively as well as adding a 3D format to standard movies. The notebook will still require those stereoscopic glasses that seem to elicit groans from many people. Acer is working on a model that won’t require the glasses, but that could be a bit far off. There’s no timetable for its release as of yet due to hardware issues, which isn’t at all surprising.
While 3D is proving quite popular as of late, it remains to be seen how long Digital 3D will last in the public eye. Buying a notebook that is capable of showing “Coraline” or “Up” in their full 3D versions is a nice idea, but it might not have a lot of lasting appeal. It will still function as a notebook, but the 3D capability could easily get lost after a while. It will be nice to have the option, and it might turn out that it will be able to make other things on the computer 3D as of now the movie focus seems almost a bit gimmicky.
