Acer breaks form factor ground with this smartphone

by JG Mason on Feb 4, 2009 at 02:00 PM

acer slider phone with qwerty keyboard smartphoneAu contraire, Robert.  Acer looks to be doing a bit more than just rebranding a Glofiish phone for this month’s cell phone bazaar in Barcelona.  What is really interesting is BGR says this thing is a swivel keyboard and the shape matches the overall phone’s shape.  I have trouble seeing how this thing swivels; to me it looks like a snap-on accessory.

To me, that would be even more attractive than always lugging around an attached keyboard that I don’t need for many tasks.  I’d be much happier to snap-in the phone for some serious emailing when I have to.  Sure, I would lose the keyboard, but I am sure Acer can make more, right?  BGR labeled the photo AcerSlider so perhaps they know more then they are letting on?

The OS is unclear on this. I’ve said that I expect Acer to bring out a bunch of Windows Mobile phones, but maybe they are dabbling with Android here?

Whatever it is, I propose we start a collection up to buy these ninjas a quality camera.  Maybe one of those 10 megapixel jobbers with autofocus and a flash?  These low-res, blurry, grainy photos are getting to me.  We’ll see this thing in full glory (and resolution) in just a couple of weeks.
