And the battle to be the King of 3D continues!  Mitsubishi is continuing to muscle their way into the top of the stack with their line of 3D-ready Home Theater HDTV products.  Frank DeMartin, Vice President, Marketing, at Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, says “3D in the home is becoming an exciting reality and Mitsubishi’s 3D-ready Home Theater TVs will play a key role in allowing consumers to enjoy 3D movies and gaming.”

The most recent in the line of products includes three 73” models.  They also feature 60” and 65” sizes.  Regardless of which of the three screen sizes you choose, you get thinner frames, better brightness and, most importantly in the current hoopla, 3D-ready capability.  Mitsubishi also offers 1080p Home Theater TVs, so there is definitely a race on in the 3D competition.

“Consumer demand for 3D-capable HDTVs and content will only increase in 2009 and beyond.  The industry can expect Mitsubishi to keep pace with this increased demand while at the same making enhancements to our 3D-ready Home Theater TVs for 2009-2010,” said David Naranjo, director of product development, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America.

Now…some interesting things to note in the whole race to 3D; according the Mitsubishi “[a] 3D standard does not currently exist for Blu-Ray or DVD prepackaged media”.  Hmmmm.  Some other makers might disagree with that.  It may not yet be a set “standard”, but the technology is definitely out there.  They recently released a priced 3D-Ready TV that works via lasers.  They say the LaserVue TV features twice the color gamut of current HDTV’s.  So this “3D Ready” spec is rather interesting with Mitsubishi’s disclaimer of any 3D standard.  As well as having great color, the LaserVue TV also apparently saves energy because of the lower power consumption the lasers use, which also apparently last just about forever.  Maybe all of that will make it worth the price tag of a “mere” $7,000

Oh, and by the way, you still have to wear those nifty glasses for the LaserVue too. Bummer.
