Hulu rolls out “Hulu Labs” including desktop application for Windows and Mac

Google’s got its labs, and now so does Hulu. Welcome to Hulu’s not-quite-ready products. First off is software called “Hulu Desktop” that lets you watch Hulu video using your Apple or Windows Media remotes. It allows for full screen viewing and has quite the snazzy interface. Is this why they pulled themselves off of Boxee? To produce their own software? Perhaps this is just the guys behind Hulu putting together an experiment to show their bosses that the idea could work.
Also available. are widgets in their “Video Panel Designer” lab, “Recommendations,” and “Time-Based Browsing.” The Time-Based Browsing feature lets you check TV shows by their air date. So if you know “The Office” comes out on Thursdays, it will be easier for you to find that video. Still the Hulu Desktop is the most interesting development from the labs. The system requirements are a bit hefty.
Mac Minimum requirements: Intel Pentium Core Duo 2.0GHz At least 2.0 GB of RAM Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger) or later 2 Mbps Internet connection Flash 9.0.124
Windows Minimum requirements: Intel Pentium Core Duo 1.8GHz At least 2.0 GB of RAM Windows XP or later 2 Mbps Internet connection Flash 9.0.124
Since these are “labs” don’t expect them to work 100% of the time just yet. I’ve had the Hulu Desktop application crash on me a couple of times already, but it’s not bad if you want to watch Hulu on your television. By the way, all the lab items are free. Take them out for a spin.

I just wish they could find a way to make Hulu worldwide available, because here (in Argentina) we have to wait 3 months to get the series, and we get ‘em cropped down to 4:3 and with a gigantic loss in quality.
Even if they offer the service as a paid one, with a monthly subscription fee, I’ll be more than willing to pay for it, and I’m not the only one who thinks that way.
I’d download the apps to test them, but I have no use for them.
