Robotic Albert Einstein makes its appearance at CES
Maker of handheld games and electroincs, Excalibur Electronics, is showing off their talking Albert Einstein head. The head shoots out facts and information, and is very entertaining to watch. I’m not sure I needed to see quite that much detail on Eintstein’s face, but I commend the team at Excalibur for making it so life-like. Take a look at a few snapshots below. Long live Einstein.
Skullycandy shows off 2XL, a sexy new line of headsets
The company behind stylish lifestyle headphones, Skullycandy, is branching off a new division of youth-centric consumer headphones called 2XL. 2XL maintains the company’s trendy look with a slew of new products ranging from earbuds to over-ear headphones - 5 models total. The products feature creative designs on the side cleverly named Easy Money, Grills, Bunny, Snakeyes, Wreckingball, Nuevo Sonido, Defender, Pace-Car, Bounty Hunter, and Rasta. 2XL products will be available in your typical retailers including mass merchandisers, automotive, drug and grocery stores.
Microsoft shows off Automotive products at CES 2009
Not only did Microsoft have a huge presence at CES this year, but they also took their automotive presence to the next level with Sync, and integration of their Tell Me product. If you’re not familiar with Sync, the service is a automotive mobile entertainment and communication platform for your mobile devices and digital audio players. Now, the company is offering GPS and real-time traffic information and voice commands via Tell Me, adding to their slew of automotive specs. You can check out some of the Sync integration in the photo gallery below. Notice that the dashboard pictured is simply a digital screen, not a real dashboard like you and I have grown to love. Enjoy the gallery and I’m sure we’ll be seeing some more great new auto/Microsoft integration in the near future.
Motorola shows off MotoSurf, other new products at CES
Motorola’s new MotoSurf A3100 was the highlight of their booth. The new smartphone is powered by a skinned version of Windows Mobile 6.1, has a 2.8-inch touch screen display, and two cameras. Allthough the phone is currently headed for Asia and Latin America, we will likely be seeing it in the US very soon. Many of other things things in their booth were merely concepts, or products like WiMax that do not yet affect our lives—unless you live in Portland or Baltimore—however products like the Aura (the goofy-looking silver swivel phone) are fairly fresh.
Intel shows it all: netbooks, touch screens, gaming, ball-kicking robots
Intel didn’t have many new products to show at CES this year, but the company’s booth was still looking good. The company showed all of the latest netbooks with Intel chips on a grand wall-o-netbooks, had a touch screen Minority Report-style information board showcasing their latest products (sans multi-touch), showed off a life-sized racing game with three HDTVs surrounding the driver, and my favorite…ball-kicking robots. Ball-kicking robots you say? You heard me right. The little WoWee-like robots, controlled by a nearby laptop, drove around a little platform bumping a white soccer ball around. Check out photos of Intel’s CES happenings below.
RelatedMicrosoft booth tour: Windows 7, Windows Live, Sync
By now we knew what to expect from Microsoft’s CES booth. As we could tell by Steve Ballmer’s keynote yesterday, the company is starting to make a big push for Windows 7 (since the press is over Vista). The company had several demo stations set up allowing you to click around in the new operating system, and check out the new version of Windows Live and Windows Messenger. As Ballmer was telling us, Microsoft and the Windows platform are beginning to attack every area of your life: PC, Phone, Car, Gaming, etc.
Hit the gallery below to see what we saw in the booth today.
More shots of the Palm Pre

LG shows off 2009 product line-up at CES
Now I’m going to tell you LG’s booth was big… and you’re just going to have to take my word for it. LG was showing off all of their latest and greatest which were annonced at yesterday’s press conference. The line-up includes yet another sneak peek at the LG Watch Phone prototype, Wireless HD, TruMotion 240Hz displays, and the new LHX wireless and “super slim 1080p HDTV.
Other notable products at their booth are the LG Prada 2, Swarovski crystal Bluetooth headset, LG Dare, and their entire line-up of new HDTVs. Which as you’ll see in the gallery is far too many to list out. Hit up the gallery below and let us know what you think of LG’s new 2009 products.
Up close and personal with the LG Watch Phone
At yesterday’s LG press conference, the company announced plans to launch their touch-screen Watch Phone later this year. Today, we got to take a closer look, and are liking what we saw. We do however have a few concerns about the performance of the device.
Do you need to hold the watch up to your face to talk on the phone?
Apparently not. The company claims if you hold your arm down at your side, the microphone will pick it up, and you will be able to hear the person on the other end. I am very skeptical of this, but until I try it, I’ll cautiously take their word for it.
Is a watch really supposed to replace your mobile phone?
I suppose the answer to this one is yes since the device is a full-featured phone. It seems a little silly to me to do everything on a screen as small as a watch, but if they can make the experience usable, then it does have possibilities.
Samsung heads in the right direction with Unified UI
Far too often, large consumer electronics manufacturers have so many different divisions, and engineers working on so many products, that there is a different user interface on each product line. Samsung has finally snapped out of it and realized people want easy to use, familiar menus and firmware on their devices. No matter if you’re playing with your new camera or your new HDTV, you should be able to easily figure out how to do what you want to without reading an instruction manual or calling customer service.
